A | Colombo, Oct 17 (UNI) Bangladesh has gently urged Sri Lanka to pay back the $200 million it borrowed by March 2023, a newspaper reported on Monday. The Island quoted a Bangladeshi news report as saying that the reminder was given by Abdur Rouf Talukder, the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, at a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Nandalal Weerasinghe in the US. The two governors held a discussion on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington. The Bangladesh Bank chief said Dhaka gave $200 million to Sri Lanka under a currency swap agreement but due to the economic crisis Colombo could not return the money on time. The Bangladesh Bank Governor said that Dhaka extended the loan payment period twice at the request of Sri Lanka. He said Sri Lanka is supposed to repay the $ 200 million loan in three instalments in February and March next year. UNI MR。
